Avalon Health Care Inc. - E. Roy Stone, Jr. Veterans Pavilion is seeking a Security/Maintenance professional in a 7pm–7am shift, with every other weekend. The role focuses on keeping the facility safe and incident-free in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities include patrolling, monitoring entrances, and responding to alarms, while ensuring HIPAA compliance and resident safety. This position supports a 24/7 care environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in security/maintenance within a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Willingness to work 7pm–7am and weekends.
  • Able to follow HIPAA/privacy rules and safety policies.

  • Patrol premises regularly to maintain order and establish presence.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance of vehicles or people on the property.
  • Remove wrongdoers or trespassers from the area and secure all exits/doors.
  • Check surveillance cameras periodically to identify disruptions or unlawful acts.
  • Respond to alarms and provide assistance to people in need.
  • Submit reports of daily surveillance activity and important occurrences.

Avalon Health Care - E. Roy Stone, Jr. Veterans Pavilion is hiring for Security/Maintenance

Effective July 1, the E. Roy Stone Veterans Pavilion on the CM Tucker campus, will transfer to the SC Department of Veteran Affairs from the SC Department of Mental Health. Avalon Health Care, a privately operated company experienced in the long-term care needs of Veterans, will operate the Veterans Home for the SC Department of Veterans Affairs.

Summary/Objective

Responsible for keeping the facility safe and problem-free. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Security
  • Patrol premises regularly to maintain order and establish presence.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance of vehicles or people in the property.
  • Remove wrongdoers or trespassers from the area.
  • Secure all exits, doors and windows after end of operations.
  • Check surveillance cameras periodically to identify disruptions or unlawful acts.
  • Investigate people for suspicious activity or possessions.
  • Respond to alarms by investigating and assessing the situation.
  • Provide assistance to people in need.
  • Apprehend and detain perpetrators according to legal protocol before arrival of authorities.
  • Submit reports of daily surveillance activity and important occurrences.
  • Maintain Building grounds in a safe, workable condition
Customer Service
  • Establish and maintain positive interactions with internal and external customers, including co-workers.
  • Promptly respond to call lights.
Resident’s Rights
  • Knows Resident Rights. Helps the residents/residents exercise and/or protect their rights.
  • Reports resident/resident complaints to management.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident/resident information.
  • Understand, comply with and promote all rules and regulations regarding residents’ rights.
  • Support resident autonomy and choice. o Promote a restraint‑free environment.
HIPAA
  • Follows and adheres to Facility’s policies and procedures implementing HIPAA requirements for the privacy and security of protected health information.
  • Uses and/or discloses only minimum amount of Protected Health Information necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • Reports all suspected violation of company’s HIPAA policies or procedures to Facility Privacy Designee.
Continuing Education
  • Participate in facility/department in‑services and quality improvement activities.
  • Attend continuing education programs.
  • Attend facility/department/staff meetings as required.
Safety
  • Knows and follows all Company policies, regulations and requirements.
  • Demonstrate safe practices in regard to resident's comfort and safety by applying knowledge of proper body alignment for self and resident.
  • Practice and promote adherence to institutional safety codes.
  • Follows facility dress and hygiene policies.
  • Demonstrates proper use of equipment. Reports equipment needs or repairs.
  • Follows facility smoking policies.
  • Reports and documents any incidents or accidents of residents, staff or visitors to the appropriate facility personnel.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment to Supervisor.
  • Performs duties, which may include transportation of residents, as assigned in Facility Disaster Plan.
  • Uses required protective equipment.
  • Follows infection control standards, policies and procedures.
Other Responsibilities
  • Must adhere to Code of Conduct and Business Ethics policy, including documentation and reporting responsibilities.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned.
  • Ability to understand and apply training from in‑service education and ability to instruct personnel during training education and staff meetings.
  • This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work.
  • This is a position in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Rotating shifts as well as holidays and working during inclement weather may be required.

This job operates in a fast‑paced nursing home environment. Also routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
