Job summary

Avalon Health Care Group is hiring a Maintenance Director for the E. Roy Stone Veterans Pavilion in Columbia, SC. The role oversees day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and safety of the facility, with a focus on life safety and adherence to health care standards.

We offer a full-time position with competitive wage range ($34.00–$36.00/hr) and a comprehensive benefits package including 401K and health plans. This role requires leadership, reliability, and a strong mechanical background.

Qualifications

• Maintenance experience in skilled nursing facility is strongly preferred.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting and carpentry repairs or equivalent knowledge/licensing.
• Must read/write English and follow directions.
• Strong working knowledge of Life Safety code regulations in health care.
• Familiarity with local building codes.
• Able to relate well to residents and staff.
• Computer literacy required.
• Meet health, drug screen and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Perform and supervise repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance of building and grounds; manage external vendors per procedures.
• Supervise maintenance staff; assign tasks, train and recruit.
• Monitor work, give feedback and manage performance.
• Maintain records, budgets and supplies; fulfill department head duties.
• Ensure safety, infection control and sanitation procedures are followed.

Effective July 1, the E. Roy Stone Veterans Pavilion on the CM Tucker campus, will transfer to the SC Department of Veteran Affairs from the SC Department of Mental Health. Avalon Health Care, a privately operated company experienced in the long-term care needs of Veterans, will operate the Veterans Home for the SC Department of Veterans Affairs.

Wage :

$34.00 - $36.00/hr

Responsibilities

• Perform minor repairs and supervise the day-to-day repair, improvement and preventative maintenance of the building, equipment, lawn and grounds; arrange for and manage outside repair, maintenance and construction services according to procedures; and may perform and supervise floor care.
• Supervise maintenance staff in the day-to-day facility operations of assigned areas. Make job assignments and set priorities. Orient new staff and participate in recruitment and selection. Communicate policies, assist and coach as needed.
• Monitor work assignments, provide feedback, evaluate performance and discipline as needed.
• Maintain record manage budgets and supplies, and fulfill department head responsibilities.
• Ensure equipment and work areas are clean, safe and orderly; and strict adherence to procedures regarding cleaners or hazardous materials or objects; ensure Universal Precautions and infection control, isolation, fire, safety and sanitation practices and procedures are followed; and promptly address any hazardous conditions and equipment.
• Comply with Company policies involving all safety and infection control procedures to include the proper use of mechanical lifts, gait belts and personal protective back supports.
• Comply with standard Lock Out/Tag Out procedures for electrical repairs.
• Attend and participate in educational activities, in-service training, and staff meetings; assist in orientation and training other staff.
• Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Maintenance experience in Skilled Nursing facility strongly preferred
• Must have minimum 5 years’ experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, and carpentry repairs or equivalent technical knowledge or licensing.
• Must have the ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions in English.
• Must have strong working knowledge of Life Safety code regulations applicable to the health care industry.
• Must be familiar with State and local building code regulations.
• Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and to work cooperatively with other associates.
• Basic understanding of computer technology.
• Must meet all local health regulations, and pass post-employment physical exam if required. This requirement also includes drug screening, criminal background investigation and reference inquiry.
• Must be responsive to after hour and weekend calls (24/7).
