Job summary

City of San Antonio seeks a Security Guard to patrol Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and surrounding areas. Under supervision, you will deter theft, monitor access, and assist the public.

Job description

Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing patrol and security work at a City facility or related area. Exercises no supervision.

Work Location

Work Schedule

• Shifts: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM or 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM
• Shiftwork, weekends, holidays, evenings and extended hours as needed

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas to eliminate or report fire hazards, deter thefts, vandals, or violence.
• Takes necessary action to detain or prevent entry by unauthorized persons.
• Checks buildings, facilities and equipment fixtures and as necessary reports on conditions by often touring, moving about and observing.
• Monitors and maintains station at entry/exit point to City activities.
• Provides information and directions to customers and the general public.
• Maintains activity logs using office equipment and communicates or dispatches through the use of a two-way radio.
• Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
• One (1) year experience as a Security Guard or security related experience.
• Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience as a security guard or security related experience.
• Three (3) years of customer service experience
• Experience with Microsoft Office

Applicant Information

• Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
