Job summary

Allied Universal is hiring a Security Professional – Unarmed for Northwestern Memorial Hospital Downtown Chicago. The role protects patients, visitors and staff by monitoring the ED, responding to disturbances, and enforcing hospital policies.

Training and weapons detection certification can lead to pay increases; vaccines and TB testing may be required per policy. The position requires at least a high school diploma, 21+ age, and willingness to participate in screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform posted security duties in the emergency department and document observations.
  • Assist hospital staff with de-escalating situations and restrain combative individuals as needed.
  • Assist with evacuations during fires, emergencies, and disasters.
  • Sound alarms or contact police or fire in emergencies or for unauthorized access.
  • Inform violators of rules and monitor entrances and exits in the ER.
  • Verify authorized entry and prevent contraband or hospital items from leaving or entering.
  • Observe departing personnel to prevent theft and ensure proper property removal.
  • Investigate and report accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities with written logs.
  • Provide rapid response in close quarters during emergencies.
  • May be required to restrain individuals using approved techniques.
  • De-escalate conflicts and defend safety when needed.

This position is for Security officer for Northwestern Memorial Hospital Downtown Chicago!
Pay Range: $19.80 / hour – $23.30 / hour $2 more an hour for working overnight shift! PSO – Start at $19.80 / hour and receive an increase to $21.80 / hour upon completion of weapons detection training certification. ED – Pay Rate: $21.30 / hour and increases to $23.30 / hour after receiving a certification in weapons detection training. Candidates MUST be at least 21 years of age Candidates MUST be willing to have a yearly flu shot and certain vaccines up to date Candidates MUST be able to wear required personal protective equipment on their face per CDC guidelines Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401k, and life insurance.

Allied Universal® is hiring a Security Professional – Unarmed. The Security Professional is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and medical staff by monitoring the emergency department, responding to disturbances, de-escalating conflicts, and enforcing hospital policies. The role includes controlling access to restricted areas, assisting during medical or behavioral emergencies, and working closely with healthcare personnel and law enforcement when necessary. Security Professionals may also be required to physically restrain combative or violent individuals, using approved techniques and in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, to protect the safety of patients, staff, and others.

Due to the safety sensitive nature of this role, qualified candidates must be able to submit to drug screening to the extent permissible by law. This assignment is in a healthcare facility. As such, a tuberculosis (TB) test and certain vaccinations may be required. Response to certain situations will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) within CDC guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform posted security positions in the emergency department; document detailed observations of unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards

  • Assist hospital staff with de-escalation of situations involving patients; restrain combative individuals as necessary (within company and legal guidelines)

  • Assist with evacuations during fires, medical emergencies, and natural disasters

  • Sound alarms or call police or fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons

  • Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles

  • Permit authorized persons to enter property and monitor entrances and exits; ensure only authorized individuals enter and exit the emergency room, and that no contraband or hospital items are brought in or out

  • Observe departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensures that authorized removal of property is conducted within appropriate client requirements

  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities; maintain written logs as required

  • Provide rapid response in a close quarters environment to emerging situations

  • Due to the unpredictable nature of an emergency medical environment, this role may be required to physically restrain an individual utilizing body strength and restraint equipment

  • Effectively de-escalate conflict; when all options have been exhausted with de-escalation and maintaining space, this role may be required to physically defend themselves or others in an emerging situation

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment

  • Minimum of one (1) year of verifiable experience in the security/protective industry or military, law enforcement, or corrections

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Demonstrated ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public

  • Effective oral and written communication skills; able to write informatively, clearly, and accurately

  • Problem solving skills; ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively; identify critical issues quickly and accurately

  • Active listening skills

  • Able to mediate conflict with tact, diplomacy

  • Attention to detail

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Service in Military Occupational Specialty related to law enforcement, security (such as Military Police, Elite Military Forces, combat arms) or any support role in a Combat Zone

  • Graduate of a Certified Public Safety Academy (military or civilian) or verified work experience in the law enforcement, adult corrections, or firefighter field

  • Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or criminal justice related studies

  • Eight (8) or more years of service in any military branch

  • Associate’s degree (or 60 credits) or higher in law enforcement or criminal justice with current or prior active military service
