Security Guard

Company: Le Jardin Academy, located in Kailua, HI, is an International Baccalaureate World School offering students a world-class education from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade. Founded in 1961, Le Jardin Academy serves over 920 students.

Reports to: Security Manager

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 01:30 PM to 09:30 PM, and Friday and Saturday from 06:00 AM to 02:00 PM.

Starting hourly pay range: $18.00–$21.00.

Job Scope

The Security Guard is responsible for the protection, safeguarding and security of assets, personnel, parents, students and all visitors.

Essential Functions

• Report conditions on campus while on shift, including campus use, health and safety conditions, etc.
• Monitor parking and visitors on campus.
• Maintain contact with front desk personnel, event organizers, and other campus users.
• Conduct inspections campus-wide on Fire Code and other health and safety regulations.
• Assist Administration with discipline incidents as needed.
• Assist with loss prevention at the direction of the Head of Security.
• Ensure campus is locked and secured.
• Liaise with contracted cleaning staff and other campus users and employees.
• Direct traffic to ensure proper flow and user safety as needed.
• Assist with emergency drills including fire and intruder as needed.
• Train contracted cleaning staff on campus lock‑up and closure procedures.
• Liaise with emergency management officials such as fire and police as needed.
• Monitor equipment function and liaise, at discretion of Head of Security, with vendors.
• Research and stay current on developments in security discipline.
• Conduct staff training that includes fire drill, lockdown and safety procedures as needed.

Other Duties

• Assist as needed with setup for days, evenings and the following morning’s events.
• Assist as needed with maintenance activities, as assigned.
• Other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Possession of a Hawaii State Guard Card.
• First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (preferred). Must obtain certificate within three (3) months of hire date.

Experience

• Valid driver’s license.
• Demonstrated customer service excellence.
• Experience in a team‑oriented environment.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
• One year related experience in the security field (preferred).
• Experience working in a school setting (preferred).
• Experience relevant to security management (preferred).

Physical Requirements

Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate, handle, grip and feel objects, utensils, tools or controls.

Frequently required to lift, push, pull and/or carry items and objects up to 50 pounds (minimum 25 pounds).

Occasionally required to lift, push, pull and/or carry items and objects up to 60 pounds.

Specific vision ability required: 20/20 vision (corrected or uncorrected).

Specific hearing ability required: ability to pass a hearing test (corrected or uncorrected).

Ability to drive a golf cart while patrolling the campus.

Must be able to work flexible hours, including some Saturdays, holidays and evenings.

Overtime may be required as needed and approved by the Director of Facilities.
