BASIC FUNCTION (Primary Purpose)
The Security Guard EMT ensures the safety of all people and property at the location by monitoring traffic into and out of the location, and by performing other related responsibilities that contribute to the location’s safety. In the event of emergencies, this role responds to and provides appropriate treatment and transportation assistance to ensure the safety of sick or injured people at the location.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Administer first-aid treatment to sick or injured persons and transport to medical facility if necessary.
- Remove or assist in removal of injured persons from scene of accident.
- Communicate with professional medical personnel regarding treatment and handling of sick or injured people.
- Complete and maintain all necessary records, forms, logs, and paperwork required for services provided.
- Guard entrance gate to control traffic in and out of the plant.
- Direct visitors, contractors, and truck drivers to appropriate locations within the plant.
- Inspect outgoing traffic to prevent unauthorized removal of company property.
- Answer phone calls and transfer them to the appropriate department as needed.
- Perform routine inspections of fire extinguishers and maintain inventory.
- Assist in training of co-workers as needed.
- Log in visitors, vendors, and contractors upon entry into the plant.
- Perform general cleanup of the work area.
- Maintain protective service equipment and vehicles.
- Update safety management boards and communicate high alert weather conditions to all plant personnel.
- Conduct onsite drug or alcohol tests as directed by plant management.
- Train for and assist in technical rescue operations.
Scope
To control the access of all personnel, including employees, visitors, contractors, and truck drivers, to the mill and provide other duties related to the protection of people and property of Gerdau. To provide appropriate emergency care and transportation assistance to all sick or injured people at the location.
Supervisory Responsibilities & Reporting Structure
Supervises: None
Reports to: Safety Manager
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- EVOV and precepted EMT-B certification or higher
- Ability to climb stairs/ladders, balance, bend, kneel, sit, and stand/walk for long periods
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts

- All people on company property are accounted for at all times.
- A ready supply of fire extinguishers is always maintained.
- All sick or injured people on company property receive the appropriate emergency care.
