Job summary

Punahou School is actively seeking a Full Time Regular Security Guard to join the Campus Safety and Security team. The role focuses on maintaining a visible presence, patrolling campus buildings and grounds, and notifying others according to established school protocols.

The ideal candidate will have strong judgment, excellent communication skills, and a flexible schedule to support a 24-hour security operation for faculty, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years in customer service or related field.
• One year in law enforcement or security preferred.
• Guard card-license and Hawaii DCCA registration required.
• If HI guard card not current, obtain within six months.
• Current Hawaii Driver’s License.
• First Aid/CPR/AED Certification required; if not, obtain within six months.
• Proficient in email, Windows and MS Office; Google apps.
• Knowledge of guard certification and classroom instruction.
• Knowledge of campus protocols and safety procedures.
• Proficient with radio communication equipment.
• Knowledge of campus systems (alarms, locks, Fire Alarms, elevators, lighting, AV).
• Social customer service skills to identify and mitigate crises.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a visible presence in public areas and observe incidents.
• Patrol campus buildings and grounds to deter theft, vandalism and safety hazards.
• Notify and coordinate actions per school protocols during incidents.
• Support a 24-hour security team with flexible schedule.

Punahou School is actively recruiting a Full Time Regular Security Guard to join the Campus Safety and Security team! The Security Guard focuses on maintaining a visible presence in public areas, observing incidents, acting, and notifying others according to established school protocols. The Security Guard will patrol campus buildings and grounds to prevent or deal with any incidents of theft, vandalism, fire or fire hazards, disorderly conduct, violation of school traffic, safety, security, or other regulations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, exercise good judgment and initiative at all times, and have excellent communication skills. Position Details

• Work Year: 12 Months
• Work Hours: Morning Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, or Bridge Shift: 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM, or Swing Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, or Graveyard Shift: 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM, Schedule may vary based on operational needs
• Minimum Hourly Rate*: $21.50/Hour - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.

Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or General Education degree (GED) equivalent.
• Two (2) years of experience in customer service or a related field required.
• One (1) year of work experience and/or training in law enforcement or security preferred.
• Possession of a guard card-license and approved registration with the State of Hawaii Board of Private Detectives & Guards; Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs Division (DCCA).
• If the incumbent does not have a current HI guard card-license, they will be required to obtain a one within six (6) months from entering the job.
• Current and valid Hawaii Driver’s License.
• First Aid, CPR, AED Certification required.
• If the incumbent does not have a current First Aid, CPR, AED Certification, they will be required to obtain one within six (6) months from entering the job.
• Demonstrated proficiency in using email, Windows, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel), and Google applications.
• Knowledge of guard certification classroom instruction, including the passing of a written test and on-the-job training.
• Knowledge of campus protocols and procedures necessary to ensure public welfare and safety in our campus buildings and grounds.
• Knowledge, skill and proficient ability in the operation of radio communication equipment.
• Knowledge of various campus systems, but not limited to: Alarm Monitoring, Electronic Locks, Fire Alarms, Elevators, AC/Ventilation, Lighting and AV.
• Knowledge of social customer service techniques, including the ability to identify potential negative or crisis situations and apply techniques to mitigate problems.
