Northeastern Illinois University seeks a security guard to provide basic security services under supervision, supporting the university and the Northeastern Illinois University Police Department.
Responsibilities include patrolling offices, classrooms, and open spaces, checking access, and reporting incidents. The role requires good communication and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather.

Under regular supervision, provides basic security services in accordance with the mission, goals and objectives of Northeastern Illinois University and the Northeastern Illinois University Police department, in compliance with all governing federal and state laws, and university regulations.
Patrols offices, classrooms, open spaces, and other areas of campus to prevent theft or damage to property, equipment, tools and supplies. Patrols the inner perimeter of the campus to check breaches in physical security controls such as locks, fences, gates or other barriers. Controls personnel access by monitoring the identification of individuals entering controlled areas and refer persons who lack proper credentials to a control point to arrange access. Reporting all events that aggressive patrol has identified and all actions taken subsequently by the security guard. Performs other duties as assigned.
This position requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. Incumbent will have direct contact with all members of the University as well as campus visitors. Will prepare written investigative reports, give oral statements in court and at the university’s due process hearings.
This position requires long periods of standing and walking. Many tasks are performed outside in cold, hot and inclement weather. Few tasks require heavy lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying heavy loads. Flexibility is important because of the need to enter and exit vehicles frequently, inspect exteriors of buildings, climb over and around obstacles and to be able to quickly move out of the way of dangerous situations. Mental alertness is important because of the need to make good judgments and decisions concerning subtle cues of impending danger and to discover inconsistencies in witnesses’ or suspects testimonies. Therefore the incumbent must maintain a physical and mental state of fitness and readiness that will enable them to handle, (with minimal force and often without assistance) recurrent contacts and involvements with dangerous and potentially dangerous people, animals and equipment.
Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Hours may vary depending on departmental needs).
NEIU - El Centro (3390 N. Avondale, Chicago, IL 60618) (On Occasion, may travel to other campus locations: 5500 N. St. Louis Ave., Chicago, IL 60625 and 700 E. Oakwood Ave. Chicago, IL 66053).

$17.00 - $18.00/Hour
