Job description

Responsibilities
  • Independently perform access control for pedestrians and vehicles using standard operating procedures, written orders, and regulatory requirements to determine access for a wide range of unique circumstances.
  • Authenticate identification through electronic means such as the Defense Information System for Security Web application (DISS).
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for visitors, which may include foreign nationals, government agents, elected officials, media, and Very Important Persons (VIP).
  • Report suspicious activities, unauthorized entry, fires, medical emergencies, criminal acts, or other hazards.
  • Perform and resolve a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
Requirements
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Incumbent must pass a pre‑employment and an annual physical examination.
  • Must submit to urinalysis testing under the Drug Abuse Testing Program in accordance with AR 600‑85.
  • Position is designated key and cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the organization’s capability to function effectively.
  • Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony domestic violence crime (Lautenberg Amendment).
  • Must hold a valid local driver’s license and a Government Operators License.
  • Must be authorized to carry firearms or other weapons and qualify with assigned weapons semi‑annually.
  • Must wear the DASG uniform in accordance with AR190‑56 and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Must work nights, weekends, holidays, and various shifts per the assigned schedule.
  • Must work overtime as directed and be subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Must receive training in CPR and first aid.
  • Must pass a Physical Agility Test annually in accordance with AR190‑56.
  • Must remain qualified with the Individual Reliability Program (AR190‑56).
  • Position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
Qualifications
  • One year of specialized experience in protecting property from hazards such as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; maintaining order and protecting life; and operating procedures to control access to highly sensitive national defense materials and systems. Experience with weapon maintenance and related equipment is required.

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship must be provided.
  • One‑year probationary period during which the agency evaluates fitness and continued employment based on performance, conduct, and organizational needs.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions from the Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
  • Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement; Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized.
