Job summary

Defense Microelectronics Activity seeks a Security Specialist to lead and execute comprehensive security programs across PERSEC, INFOSEC, physical security, and OPSEC. The role requires proactive problem-solving, high autonomy, and the ability to manage sensitive activities affecting DMEA operations.

Qualifications

Duties

As a Security Specialist at the NH-0080-3 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • The role demands a proactive problem-solver who can develop innovative security solutions for complex situations where precedents may not exist. This position functions with a high degree of autonomy, requiring the specialist to independently initiate and manage assignments that have a wide impact on DMEA's mission and operations.
  • Administrating Comprehensive Security Programs: Overseeing, implementing, and supporting all aspects of DMEA security operations, including Personnel Security (PERSEC), Information Security (INFOSEC), Physical Security, and Operations Security (OPSEC).
  • Managing Personnel Security & Clearances: Initiating and reviewing personnel security investigations, adjudicating employee suitability for access to sensitive areas, and managing clearance statuses using systems like the Defense Information System for Security (DISS).
  • Overseeing Physical and Technical Security: Managing DMEA-specific access control and closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems for specialized labs and clean rooms, assessing physical security needs, and recommending improvements.
  • Direct Industrial Security Operations: Reviewing classified contracts (DD Form 254), conducting security inspections and site surveys at contractor facilities, and managing security requirements to protect government information and assets.
  • Conducting Security Reviews and Investigations: Analyzing and investigating a variety of security issues, conducting "End of Day" checks to ensure all classified information is secure, and assisting in investigations concerning classified spillage or other security incidents.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the NH-03 if you fulfill the following qualifications: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH - 02 (GS-11 or equivalent) grade level in the Federal service:
  • Personnel Security (PERSEC): Adjudicating personnel suitability, managing clearance investigations, and utilizing systems such as the Defense Information System for Security (DISS).
  • Physical Security: Managing access control systems, CCTV, and performing security assessments for specialized facilities like clean rooms and labs.
  • Information Security (INFOSEC): Ensuring the proper handling, storage, and destruction of classified materials and investigating security incidents.
  • Industrial Security: Overseeing classified contracts and conducting security surveys of contractor facilities.
  • Operations Security (OPSEC): Integrating countermeasures to protect critical information and operational activities from hostile exploitation.
  • Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP): Developing and implementing plans and procedures relevant to a semiconductor manufacturing facility.
  • Interpreting and adapting broad, and often ambiguous, security regulations from directives (e.g., DoD, NISPOM, OSD).
Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
