Job summary

The Institute of Defense Analyses (IDA) in Princeton, NJ is seeking a Security Officer for the CCRP site. The shift is Sunday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to midnight, with overtime and holiday coverage as needed.

You will monitor intrusion detection, CCTV, access control and visitor screening, maintain logs, and ensure secure handling of sensitive materials while supporting a safe, compliant work environment.

Qualifications

• Two or more years security experience.
• Able to obtain TS/SI security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Establishes familiarity with normal and emergency procedures, posts, and facility layout.
• Learns and operates intrusion detection, video surveillance, and access control systems; reports malfunctions.

• Protects sensitive materials during security checks.
• Records security events with logs and reports; completes required paperwork.
• Escort and conduct safety/security tours; may perform receptionist duties.

Overview

The Institute of Defense Analyses (IDA) has an immediate career opening for a Security Officer in our Center for Communications Research located in Princeton, New Jersey (CCRP). The shift is Sunday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to midnight

Our primary sponsor is the Department of Defense and the classified work that is done at IDA must be kept secure. Our Security Officers are the first line of defense against leaks of classified information and for maintaining a safe and orderly work environment for our employees. We have our own in-house security which means that your job is stable and consistent. There’s a strong team dynamic and level of mutual respect. Due to the nature of the work (365 days/year, 24 hours, 7 days per week) this position is often required to work varied shifts including overtime hours and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and maintains familiarity with all normal and emergency procedures, each duty post, and the physical layout of the facility and grounds.
• Develops and maintains proficiency in the operation of the intrusion detection, video surveillance, personnel access control, including red badge warning/intercom systems, and fire/safety systems; reports any observed system malfunctions.
• Learns about and adapts to all existing and future security enhancing system add-ons, changes and upgrades.
• Regulates personnel entry into building and adjacent areas; checks personnel identification badges; ensures visitors have authorized entry and secures means of proper identification; maintains log of visitors.
• Insures the protection and proper control of sensitive material to include documents, printouts, and associated media during security checks within the controlled area of the facility.
• Records all security related occurrences in an accurate and timely manner throughout the shift by maintaining logs, reports, and completion of all required security paperwork.
• Escorts uncleared personnel and performs safety/security tours in and about the CCR‑P complex.
• May perform the duties of the receptionist/switchboard operator, including answering phones, logging in calls and operating the postal meter/scale system.
• Performs other duties as assigned, which may include tasks outside the normal scope of security.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Two or more years experience in a security related environment (preferably in a defense related organization).
• Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
• Experience using computers and associated software, and familiarity with security related equipment.
• Able to obtain and maintain necessary security clearance (TS/SI).
• Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

Compensation

We support transparency, equity and fairness in our compensation program and provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range based on data‑driven market analysis for each position. While it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $42,000-$67,000. Individual salary within this range will be commensurate with the incumbent's experience, unique skills and qualifications and other relevant factors.
