Job summary

The University at Albany's Information Technology Services (ITS) seeks an Information Security Analyst/Engineer to protect critical infrastructure, data, and research assets in a fast-paced, research-intensive environment.

You'll work directly with the CISO and partner with network, systems, and application teams to handle incident response, network security, automation, and engineering across a stack including Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, Palo Alto, and Cloudflare, with opportunities to build

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a college or university.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in modern incident response, including investigation, containment, remediation, and use of enterprise security tooling such as Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, or comparable platforms.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in network security, including hands-on work with technologies and practices such as next-generation firewalls, IDS/IPS, segmentation, traffic analysis, or related controls.
• Experience collaborating with infrastructure, systems, or application teams to implement security controls, support remediation efforts, or improve operational processes in an enterprise environment.
• Experience using scripting (Python or PowerShell), AI, automation, or security workflows to improve detection, response, or efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Incident detection, response, and automation across endpoints, identity, and cloud workloads with Defender/Sentinel.
• Manage firewall policy and network security controls (Palo Alto, Cloudflare) and analyze network telemetry.
• Run vulnerability scans with Tenable and automate tracking and reporting.
• Support risk assessments, audits, and policy updates; promote security awareness.
• Develop and maintain scripts and automation workflows to support IR and network security.
