DMC Harper University Hospital has distinguished itself in surgery and medicine and is known for its clinical expertise and innovative research. A specialty referral hospital, Harper has established Centers of Excellence in neurosciences, bariatric surgery, vascular services, multidisciplinary cardiovascular services, hypertension, stroke prevention and heart failure.

Summary Description

Security Dispatcher is responsible for maintaining operational control of communications for DMC Police Authority. Responsible for operating various sophisticated technology equipment, monitoring life safety systems, processing and dispatching emergency & non-emergency calls. The Dispatcher is required to perform while demonstrating optimal customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
  1. Monitoring and respond to life safety system - fire panel alarms, CCTV systems, infant abduction systems, access control, etc.
  2. Knowledge of individual hospital and exterior campus.
  3. Receive emergency and non-emergency calls and record significant information.
  4. Prioritize calls according to urgency and importance.
  5. Use radio, phone or computer to send Police Authority Officers to respond to situations.
  6. Coordinate with police, fire department and other emergency response teams to ensure appropriate response is made to emergency situations.
  7. Understanding of police and fire response 911 notifications.
  8. Reporting unusual activity to security staff who may investigate further or take action themselves.
  9. Track inquiries, reports and requests via manual or electronic logs.
  10. Provide exceptional customer service to staff, patients, visitors and physicians.
  11. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of all security orders, written and oral, pertaining to assigned duties, as well as working knowledge of regulatory requirements needed for position.
  12. Possess Emergency Management credentials FEMA 300, 400, 700.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills Required
  • Effective written and oral communication skills (includes proper grammar and spelling for report writing).
  • Effective interpersonal skills to deal with all levels of personnel and the public professionally.
  • Ability to handle both common and crisis situations calmly and efficiently.
  • Sound and independent judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong active listening skills.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and provide quality customer service regularly.
  • Must meet all physical requirements of the job, potentially including an annual physical.
  • Ability to perform duties wearing personal protective equipment (masks, gowns, security-related equipment, etc.), as required.
