Job description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a junior-to-mid level Security Control Assessor to monitor, improve, and support cybersecurity controls and systems used by Code 34 of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT), located in Middletown, RI. An ideal candidate will possess prior experience with supporting cybersecurity and the Risk Management Framework (RMF) in a Navy or DoD environment.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Monitor applicable cybersecurity management tools and databases daily for all events collected by enterprise security products employed by NUWCDIVNPT Code 34 to identify suspicious activity, provide analysis of anomalies, and investigate and provide recommendations for resolution of the cybersecurity event with department Information System Security Officers (ISSOs).
  • Analyze and gather data and metrics in support of department and center level data calls for the collection of cybersecurity data and metrics.
  • Perform electronic audits of IT and IA data to assess compliance with Government cybersecurity policies. Document the results of the audits and provide to department ISSOs.
  • Perform manual and automated vulnerability test and evaluation for IT and IA, software applications and laboratories.
  • Provide information (such as hardware and software lists and verified vulnerability scans) to the designated Navy Qualified Validator (NQV) or Code 10 RMF point of contact on all Code 34 Research Development Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) RMF packages in accordance with the RMF process.
Location: Full time onsite at Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI.

Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. May also require physical activity including lifting/moving computer & server hardware assets, setting up workstations, laying network cable, and supporting other IT infrastructure activities.

Existing Secret Security Clearance Required: This position requires an existing DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate will already possess an Active or Interim Secret security clearance. A strongly qualified candidate with relevant NMCI/DoD experience but no current security clearance may be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Qualified as a DOD 8140 Policy Cyber Workforce (CWF) Security Control Assessor (612) Basic or Intermediate. To qualify, must possess at least one of the following:
    • Bachelors of Science (BS) degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or similar, from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution.
    • OR, possess NEC 746A Information Systems Administrator,
    • OR, possess one or more of the following certifications. Proof of active/current certification must be provided prior to a job offer being extended:
      • Certified in Governance Risk and Compliance (CGRC)
      • CompTIA Cloud+
      • CompTIA PenTest+
      • CompTIA Security+
      • CompTIA SecurityX (formerly CASP+)
  • At least two (2) years of relevant professional experience with providing cybersecurity support services or supporting the RMF process, or similar.
    • An ideal candidate's experience will have been obtained in a Navy/DoD/Federal environment.
  • Proficiency with common productivity software including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to interact with contractor, government, and active-duty military personnel.
