Job summary

Versant is seeking a Junior Automation Security Engineer to build and support Python automations that simplify security controls, with emphasis on CI/CD, GitHub, and IaC practices. You will write tests, enhance logging, and ensure secure, auditable workflows within our cloud environment.

The role involves collaboration across security, platform, cloud, and engineering teams to automate recurring tasks and improve incident response while adhering to least privilege and change-management standards.

Qualifications

• Reading, debugging, and improving Python scripts and REST APIs.
• Experience with Git and GitHub; familiarity with CI/CD concepts and GitHub Actions.
• Understanding of AWS services, IAM, networking, logging, and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
• Willingness to learn Terraform through real repository work.
• Security-minded, least privilege, secrets handling, change control.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Python scripts, CLIs, API integrations, and scheduled jobs.
• Automate evidence collection, configuration checks, alert enrichment, ticket creation, reporting, and basic remediation workflows.
• Write unit tests, logging, error handling, and documentation for safe automations.
• Create and maintain GitHub Actions workflows for linting, testing, scanning, packaging, and controlled deployment tasks.
• Read, update, and test Terraform modules and plans with guidance.
• Follow least-privilege, secrets-management, logging, and change-control practices.
