Job summary

The Dayton VAMC Police Service is seeking a Security Assistant to monitor security equipment and systems, and maintain logs and reports. Primary duties include responding to alarms, managing security access, and maintaining police control center operations. This is a non-virtual, on-site position at Dayton VAMC.

Qualifications

• Specialized Experience: 1 year at GS-4 level in security or law enforcement objectives and programs.
• Experience includes monitoring physical alarm systems and security cameras; dispatching officers; maintaining logs.
• Education: 4 years of education above high school can substitute experience.

Responsibilities

• Physical Security Support: monitors and responds to alarms.
• Traces access patterns, programs, assigns/removes user permissions, and remotely opens/closes doors.
• Determines when to dispatch law enforcement or other personnel to investigate; maintains logs and prepares reports.
• Issues and retrieves keys/IDs; maintains badge accountability.
• Monitors communications and directs responses to security and life safety systems.
• Coordinates with federal/state/local law enforcement for emergencies.
• Operates dispatch center equipment and computer systems; conducts system checks and inventories.
• Enters/updates information in various databases; uses NCIC for sensitive information.
