Job summary

The Cleveland Museum of Art is seeking a Security and Special Events Manager to oversee control room and floor operations during events and regular hours. You will lead the protection services team to safeguard the collection, facility, staff, visitors, interns, volunteers, and contractors.

Requirements include an associate degree (or 3–5 years related experience), strong communication, conflict resolution, and CPR/First Aid certification.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree from college or university; or 3–5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and reliability; ability to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules guards for floor, parking, and special events operations.
  • Fingerprinting and issuance of security identification badges.
  • Oversees control room operations and fills in as needed.
  • Create, implement, and coordinate training for Protection Services staff and others.
  • Assist in all functions of parking operations as needed.
  • Manage floor operations on all shifts as needed.
  • Cover lunch/break reliefs or other duties as required.
  • Investigate and write incident reports; coordinate with security operations.
  • Propose updates to departmental documents.
  • Fill in to maintain security management; on-call as needed.
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training staff.
  • Prepare disciplinary reports and present to staff.
  • Cooperate with police, fire and civil defense authorities.
  • Provide training in first aid/CPR, safety, customer service.
  • Manage lost and found.
  • Conduct daily roll calls and inform staff.
  • Serve as primary weekend/evening/holiday visitor service contact.
  • Pursue ongoing education and training in related fields.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Security and Special Events Manager oversees control room and floor operations during special events and regular business hours. Manages activities of the museum’s protection services team to provide adequate safety, protection and security for the collection, facility, staff, visitors, interns, volunteers, and contractors. Provides training to staff in safety, security and visitor service as needed. Works with staff, contractors and vendors in accordance for special events to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Requirements and Key Competencies

Associate degree from college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Employee should have excellent interpersonal skills, be dependable, and be willing and available to work evenings and weekends as required. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people in a variety of situations essential. Able to properly manage conflict resolution in a professional and kind manner. Formulate recommendations for the development or modification of policies and practices that promote diversity, inclusivity, and equity. Participate in professional organizations to promote networking and best practices. Required to be trained and certified in First Aid and CPR. Knowledge and experience of alarm, fire, and video surveillance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes gallery or post duties as necessary to cover lunch/break reliefs or as other circumstances dictate.
  • Investigates and writes incident reports such as accidents, thefts, and other security related events. Reports and submits incidents to security operation.
  • Resolves and recommends solutions to various departmental and employee problems and situations.
  • Proposes updates to departmental documents, as necessary.
  • Required to fill in when needed to maintain a proper level of security management in the building. On call as needed.
  • Assists in interviewing, hiring, and training gallery guards, security supervisors and night watch personnel.
  • Prepares disciplinary reports and presents to staff.
  • Cooperates with police, fire and civil defense authorities as needed.
  • Provides training of first aid and CPR, safety, customer service and other duties as needed.
  • Manages lost and found.
  • Conducts roll call daily. Informs staff of appropriate information.
  • Serves as primary contact on weekends, evenings and holidays concerning visitor service issues and building safety concerns.
  • Continues education and training in related fields to improve quality of services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary: $60,000 / working 40 hours a week
