Job summary

Nightwing in Sterling, Virginia seeks a Library Operations and Collection Management Specialist to oversee daily library operations, reference desk services, and management of physical collections within a secure federal facility.

The role requires MLS/MLIS (ALA-accredited) or a bachelor’s degree with substantial library operations experience, plus 2–3 years of professional library work and proficiency with ILS, cataloging, and MS Office. A current Top Secret Clearance with Polygraph is required.

Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited school.
• Bachelor's degree with significant library operations experience (5+ years)
• 2–3 years of professional library experience preferred.
• Experience with circulation systems and physical collection management.
• Knowledge of cataloging and classification (LC or Dewey).
• Proficiency with ILS and library workflows.

Responsibilities

• Open and close library vault daily following security protocols.
• Provide reference and research assistance to analysts and authorized users.
• Manage circulation, routing, and tracking for physical holdings.
• Maintain accurate records of check-outs, locations, and status.
• Improve discoverability of physical holdings per sponsor guidance.
• Support analysts' access to hard-copy materials and collections.
• Perform routine collection inventory and shelf-reading.
• Weed and perform disposition actions per policies.
• Route and redistribute materials as needed.
• Maintain collection organization per standards and sponsor guidance.
• Generate reports on collection usage and maintenance.
