Job summary

GIGATEC Engineering in Columbia, Maryland, is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our mission‑critical infrastructure team. You will design, deploy, and sustain secure Linux environments across multiple sites, with a focus on reliability, automation, and operational security.

The role requires Top Secret clearance and a completed polygraph, and applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We do not sponsor visas. Experience with containerization, networking, and documentation is essential.

Qualifications

Proficiency with the Linux CLI, utilities, and system administration tools.
Experience administering, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Linux-based systems; Bash/Python automation scripts.
Familiarity with STE/STN security compliance requirements and related policies.
Familiarity with Cisco networking, basic switch configuration and troubleshooting.
Experience with containerization: Docker, Podman, and containerd.
Documentation of configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Windows-based system administration and NetApp storage knowledge are a plus.
Experience with virtualization (VMware vSphere/vCenter) and Atlassian tools (Jira/Confluence).

Responsibilities

Engineer and sustain secure, closed-network infrastructure across multiple locations.
Collaborate with stakeholders and integration teams to operate Linux systems and automation.
Improve reliability, efficiency, and performance of mission-critical systems.
Develop clear technical documentation and guides for operations and troubleshooting.
