Job summary

Dunhill Professional Search & Government Solutions is seeking a Backup and Recovery Engineer - Journeyman to oversee enterprise backup operations for a major federal agency in a security-conscious IT environment.

You will implement backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup), validate recoverability, and support disaster recovery planning across critical systems. Requires DoD 8140 readiness and a Secret clearance; US citizenship is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science or related field.
• At least 4 years of hands-on experience implementing and managing backup and recovery solutions in an enterprise IT environment.
• Experience administering one or more enterprise backup platforms (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup) and performing routine restores and disaster recovery exercises.
• Strong knowledge of backup storage concepts, retention policies, offsite media handling, and capacity planning.

Responsibilities

• Implement and administer enterprise backup solutions to protect servers, applications, databases, and file systems across the client environment.
• Monitor backup jobs daily and drive remediation to ensure successful completion across all systems.
• Perform regular restore testing to confirm data integrity and recovery objectives.
• Develop and support disaster recovery plans and recovery exercises.
• Manage backup storage, retention policies, and offsite media handling to meet regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with admins and DBAs to ensure data protection coverage for critical workloads.
• Automate backup scheduling, reporting, and alerting to improve visibility and reduce overhead.
• Conduct capacity planning for backup infrastructure and storage growth.
