Job summary

Kalamazoo Public Schools seeks a Secondary Special Education Resource Room Paraprofessional for Hillside Middle School. You will provide behavioral, instructional, and personal support to eligible students in both special and general education settings under licensed staff supervision.

This 10-month, full-time role pays an hourly rate of $17.82 and involves assisting with transitions, documentation, and maintaining a safe learning environment while supporting student progress throughout the day.

Qualifications

• Must have at least a high school diploma or accredited equivalency and ESSA qualifying options.
• Two years of study (60 credit hours) at an institution of higher learning, or an associate degree or higher, or passing scores on approved assessments.
• Ability to handle and restrain students if necessary.
• Ability to speak clearly and express ideas clearly.
• Ability to lift or assist with physical tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide behavioral, medical, and instructional support to eligible special education students.
• Escort students in transitions within the building and between classes.
• Communicate with students in a calm and firm manner.
• Assist in problem-solving strategies, consequences, and incentives.
• Assist in charting student needs and progress.
• Assist in providing personal care to students, including lifting, feeding, toileting, and positioning.
• Assist in assessing student progress toward goals and objectives.
• Assist students individually and in groups with academic assignments.
• Perform routine classroom tasks and maintain records and a clean environment.
• Assist the teacher in implementing school/classroom rules.
