Job summary

RODNEY THOMPSON MIDDLE in Stafford, Virginia is seeking a School Counselor – Secondary to provide counseling services under the supervision of the building administrator. The role requires developing a yearly counseling plan, delivering individual and group counseling, and guiding students on academic, vocational and personal development while aligning with district policies.

The position is 12-month, on a Teacher Salary Scale, with an exempt FLSA status.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an approved school guidance and counseling program.
• Two (2) years of successful full-time teaching experience or two years of successful experience in guidance and counseling.
• Complete specialized studies in school counseling elementary, middle or secondary counseling.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements a yearly counseling plan based on school needs to provide services (individual, group, classroom guidance, and assessment).
• Consults with other counselors to assist students in selecting appropriate courses and strategies.
• Assists parents in understanding age-appropriate behaviors and refers students/parents to appropriate services.
