Job summary

Limestone County Board of Education in Limestone County, Alabama, seeks a District 6-12 School Improvement Specialist for Math to lead district-wide efforts to raise math achievement and implement College and Career Readiness Standards for Mathematics.

The role requires strong leadership, coaching, and collaboration with teachers and principals to design and deliver effective math instruction, monitor progress, and coordinate professional learning communities.

Qualifications

• Teacher Certification in secondary education.
• AMSTI training or A+/E3 or equivalent.
• Five years recent experience teaching mathematics.
• Teaching experience at more than one grade level.
• Proven results in improving student achievement in mathematics.
• Knowledge of College and Career Readiness Standards of Mathematics and the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
• Experience working with adult learners.
• Strong interpersonal, written communication and presentation skills.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.
• Experience leading mathematics content at a grade/building/district level.
• Experience in conducting mathematics staff development.
• Mentoring/coaching teachers preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with implementing CCR Standards for Mathematics and Standards for Mathematical Practice.
• Help create and implement a district Mathematics Plan based on CCR Standards.
• Demonstrate exemplary math instruction through observation, coaching, model lessons, and collaborative planning.
• Provide foundational math training for K-5 teachers.
• Diagnose student math weaknesses and match instructional strategies accordingly.
• Disaggregate and analyze assessment data to guide instruction.
• Assess district assessments for CCR Standards applicability.
• Monitor progress of math instruction and student performance and report to principals.
• Suggest instructional materials and resources where appropriate.
• Create mathematics common assessments as needed.
• Participate in leadership training sessions for math leaders.
• Meet weekly with the secondary curriculum team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Coordinate with Central Office to support Continuous Improvement Plans.
• Provide training for mentees.

Job Title: DISTRICT 6-12 SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT SPECIALIST FOR MATH

Secondary Curriculum Coordinator, Curriculum Director, and Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Job Goals:

1. The 6-12 School Improvement Specialist will lead efforts across the district to increase math achievement for all student populations and facilitate the transition to and the implementation of the College and Career Readiness Standards of Mathematics.

Qualifications:

1. Teacher Certification in secondary education.
2. AMSTI training or A+/E3 or other training as appropriate.
3. Five years recent experience teaching math.
4. Teaching experience at more than one grade-level.
5. Proven results in improving student achievement in the area of mathematics.
6. A deep level of understanding of the College and Career Readiness Standards of Mathematics including the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
7. Evidence of success in working with adult learners.
8. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills.
9. Evidence of strong written communication and presentation skills.
10. Evidence of strong planning and organizational skills.
11. Evidence of successful leadership in mathematics content at a grade level, building level or district level.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

1. Assist teachers with the implementation of College and Career Readiness Standards of Mathematics including the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
2. Assist the secondary curriculum team, building principals and district staff in creating and implementing a district Mathematics Plan based on the College and Career Readiness Standards of Mathematics.
3. Demonstrate exemplary math instruction for 6-12 teachers through the following researched-based practices: observation, coaching, model lessons, and collaborative lesson planning and small and large group professional development.
4. Help provide common foundational mathematics training for all K-5 teachers (regular classroom, SPED, ESL, etc.).
5. Assist teachers in diagnosing individual student mathematics weaknesses and match these areas of need with appropriate instructional strategies and resources based on the College and Career Readiness Standards of Mathematics.
6. Assist with disaggregating and analyzing assessment data (ACT, Performance Series, Common Unit Assessments, etc.) to help guide teachers’ instructional decisions.
7. Assist the Elementary Curriculum Coordinator in assessing district assessments and their appropriateness to the College and Career Readiness Standards of Mathematics.
8. Monitor and report the effectiveness and progress of improved mathematics instruction and student performance to building principals and district staff.
9. Help make recommendations regarding instructional materials.
10. Help create mathematics common assessments as needed.
11. Participate in various training sessions for leaders of mathematics.
12. Meet weekly with the secondary curriculum team.
13. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
14. Coordinate with other Central Office personnel to assist schools in formulating and implementing Continuous Improvement Plans.
15. Provide training for mentees.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, and crouch and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary:

Salary to be established by The Limestone County School District Salary Schedule.
