Position Summary

The employee is responsible for safe and efficient operation of drilling and sawing machinery. Work is performed in accordance with the instructions provided by the department supervisor or manager (or other designated individual). The employee is expected to carry out the assignments, free of direct supervision, except for more complicated jobs.



Shift: 7:00am - 3:00pm Monday - Friday

Duties

  1. Setup and safely operate single spindle, multiple spindle, radial-armed drills, and cut-off saws.

  2. Lay out and perform drilling, tapping, reaming and sawing functions per blueprint specifications.

  3. Read and interpret STERIS blueprints, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) including travelers, and other working documents.

  4. Maintain equipment by ensuring the proper coolant concentration and oil levels are present, including adding coolants and oils when necessary.

  5. Apply cutting and tapping fluids to materials and cutting tools to reduce heat and assist with chip removal.

  6. Use required measuring instruments and gages to check and ensure parts meet dimensional requirements.

  7. Complete all projects, assignments, and duties as directed and instructed by the area supervisor.

  8. Take responsibility for the quality of all parts by inspecting and immediately reporting any problems, discrepancies or irregularities to the supervisor.

  9. Follow 5S methodology to keep machines and work area clean, neat and orderly on a daily basis.

  10. Remain safety conscious at all times, wearing all prescribed personal protective equipment and by observing all safety rules stated in the Employee Handbook.

  11. Conform to all policies, procedures and rules of conduct as communicated through the Employee Handbook.

  12. Ability to perform duties with minimal or no supervision if needed.

  13. Exhibit teamwork by working cohesively with co-workers to continuously improve.

Education Degree
  • High School Diploma or GED
Required Experience

  1. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.

  2. Must be able to use precision measuring instruments and gages.

  3. Must be capable of lifting 40 pounds without assistance.

  4. Ability to make decisions and stay quality focused.

  5. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and members of the leadership team.

  6. Assist with training other operators.

  7. Ability to understand and follow work instructions, both written and oral.

  8. Ability to adapt to conditions as dictated by business requirements.

  9. Ability to work with others.

  10. Willingness to work overtime, if required.

Preferred Experience

  1. Minimum two years drill, saw and deburr experience preferred.

  2. Knowledge, understanding and application of Lean Manufacturing tools, such as, 5S, Kanban Inventory, Visual Management, Waste elimination, and Root Cause Problem Solving are preferred.
