This position reports directly to the Secondary Headmaster.

Description

The primary objectives of the Secondary Teaching position are to teach students in a specific subject; to train young people by modeling and expecting particular Christian character traits and appropriate levels of Christian scholarship. This position must agree with and support the Faculty/Board Member's Covenant and align with CHA's Mission Statement.

Essential Functions (Responsibilities and Tasks)
  • Write a classroom constitution explaining policies and procedures for students.
  • Attend professional development training and devotions throughout the year, including Wednesday afternoons, to understand the school's philosophy, curriculum, and methodology.
  • Complete any Principle Approach assignments within the school year.
  • Create and maintain course documents online.
  • Model Christ-like spirit in speech, actions, and attitudes.
  • Demonstrate Christian virtues through example.
  • Follow CHA's Conflict Resolution Policy in dealings with staff, administration, students, and parents.
  • Recognize parents' primary role in their children's education and support this process.
  • Implement the school's philosophy and methodology (Principal Approach) as outlined in publications.
  • Plan a curriculum that meets school standards and student needs.
  • Maintain punctuality and professionalism.
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans as directed by the headmaster.
  • Assess and report student progress regularly.
  • Take precautions to ensure safety of students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Familiarize with policies in the Faculty and Parent-Teacher Handbooks.
  • Keep accurate records as per school policies.
  • Attend required staff and committee meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as needed, such as gate or lunch duty.
  • Create a conducive learning environment appropriate to students' maturity levels.
  • Require students to maintain notebooks with minimum standards.
  • Be available outside instructional hours for education-related purposes when needed.
Qualifications
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, teamwork, decision-making, and leadership skills.
  • Stress management, ethical conduct, flexibility, initiative, and time management abilities.
  • Clerical skills including proficiency with computers, phones, and copiers.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Must obtain and maintain ACSI certification.
Supervision Responsibilities

None.

Work Environment

Professional school setting with standard office equipment.

Position Details

Full-time, 10-month salary position, Monday to Friday, 7:35 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Summer hours as needed, paid hourly.

Performance Standards

Evaluated by the Headmaster and area-level Headmaster through regular visitation and reporting.

Travel

Rare travel for conferences or training.

Physical Demands

Includes navigating stairs, speaking clearly, perceiving sounds, visual acuity for computer work, standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting of at least 25 pounds.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree in education or equivalent; ACSI certification required.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher; State teaching certification.

Additional Qualifications

ACSI Certification.
