Job summary

Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist to join the ACL Laboratories in Hartford. You will perform and monitor tests, evaluate results, calibrate equipment and contribute to quality control in a fast-paced setting.

This full-time, second-shift position requires a Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology, ASCP/MLS certification within 1 year, and provides comprehensive hospital benefits.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness. Reports and notifies test results per policy.
• Performs and documents calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment; recognizes malfunctions and implements corrections.
• Performs, documents and reviews quality control and quality assurance per protocol; evaluates QC results and takes corrective action.
• Assures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing; collects specimens from newborns, pediatrics, and adults per protocol.
• Provides direction, training and technical assistance to staff; assists in education and training protocols; mentors new team members.
• Assists in improving quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures; ensures compliance with accrediting standards and CAP requirements.
• Performs proficiency testing and supports testing in transfusion, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
• Provides direct support and timely, accurate lab results for critical care departments during high acuity events; supports transfusion services and mass casualty procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served and adheres to department policies.
