Job summary

Impulse Space in Redondo Beach is seeking an Avionics Technician with a strong focus on PCBA assembly and electromechanical avionics hardware for spacecraft used in low-earth orbit and beyond. You will solder, assemble, test, and modify components, ensuring high-reliability workmanship per engineering instructions.

You will read schematics, perform quality checks, and collaborate with EE, ME, and manufacturing teams to improve processes while thriving in a fast-paced spaceflight environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on PCBA assembly, soldering and rework.
• Proficiency in soldering and rework of SMT and through-hole components, incl. fine-pitch packages.
• Reading electrical schematics, assembly drawings, and PCB documentation.
• Experience with underfill, conformal coating, staking, or potting materials.
• Experience with electromechanical assembly.
• Strong attention to detail and high-reliability workmanship.
• Team collaboration across EE/ME/manufacturing/test groups.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality soldering and SMT assembly/rework on PCBA and others.
• Perform underfill, staking and conformal coatings of PCBA.
• Electromechanical builds of avionics hardware incl. PCBA, batteries, antennas, enclosures.
• Assemble, modify, and repair PCBA per engineering instructions.
• Conduct visual inspections and basic electrical checks to verify workmanship quality.
• Operate and maintain standard electronics lab equipment (microscopes, scopes, meters).
• Collaborate with EE, ME, and manufacturing teams to improve processes.
