Job summary

The University of Chicago's X Lab seeks a Program Lead for Second Look, a new research program focused on replications and verifications of influential AI safety research. You will co-found and co-lead the program, shape the research agenda, mentor fellows, and help raise funds to sustain the initiative.

Based at the University of Chicago, you will guide publication standards, interact with senior researchers, and help grow the program beyond its pilot phase.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, machine learning, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• Prior research experience in AI safety, machine learning, or a closely related technical field.
• Experience mentoring junior researchers and writing for technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Manage replication selection with XLab leadership and AI safety community.
• Co-leads Summer 2026 Fellowship cohort, supervise fellows and perform quality reviews.
• Own a subset of replications, contribute to experimental design and write-ups.
• Set and enforce publication standards for outputs and communications.
• Represent Second Look at conferences and online communities; engage with funders.
