MISSION STATEMENT:

SCOPE OF POSITION:

To assist with the daily preparation of food from established menus. To contribute to the health and nutritional standards of Camp Gifford through food preparation. To supervise meal preparation and guide kitchen staff in the absence of the Head (1st) Cook.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Kitchen experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Possess all required food handler certifications
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the kitchen
  • Good leadership skills and supervisory ability
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher)
  • Pass a child safety background check

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Create menus according to USDA SFSP summer meal patterns
  • Assist with food preparation and meal service as directed by the Head Cook
  • Manage inventory and ensure proper documentation of food stock
  • Coordinate work schedules with the Head Cook for efficient food prep
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance of kitchen and equipment
  • Uphold safety standards and professional conduct in the kitchen
  • Work harmoniously with other kitchen staff
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Cook or Summer Operations Director
  • Ensure snacks are prepared and cleaned up for camp staff and campers
  • Communicate needs to the Food Service Manager
  • Supervise kitchen operations in the absence of the Food Service Manager
  • Participate in scheduled retreats and other activities

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Exhibit Christ-like conduct and serve as a positive example
  • Support the overall camping program and perform related duties
  • Attend all camp programs, meetings, and activities as required
  • Follow all policies and maintain personal and camp cleanliness
  • Assist with camp cleanup at session ends and summer conclusion

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull, reach overhead, operate equipment
  • Lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Understand verbal and written instructions
  • Perform janitorial tasks as needed
