Job summary

The City of Bushnell is seeking a Second Class Lineworker for the Electric Department. The role involves skilled work in construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution lines in accordance with trade standards.

Candidates should have a High School diploma or equivalent, completion of an Apprentice program, and two years of progressive experience. A Florida Class A driver license and physical ability to climb poles are required.

  • Installs and maintains municipal, commercial and residential electric service.
  • Ensures inspections are satisfied for quality standards and safety.
  • Installs and repairs transformers, meters and related distribution equipment.
  • climbs poles to construct, replace and repair power lines and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

CITY OF BUSHNELL
SECOND CLASS LINEWORKER
DEPARTMENT: Electric Department
GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution lines in accordance with standards of the trade.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Performs routine construction, maintenance and repair of the electrical distribution system.
  2. Performs work with high voltage lines and under unfavorable weather conditions requiring skill and care to protect the employee's life and the lives of others. Live high voltage work may be performed on a case-by-case basis as authorized by a supervisor.
  3. Performs work that requires installation and maintenance of municipal, commercial and residential electric service.
  4. Performs work that will satisfy inspections while in progress and upon completion for quality standards of the trade and adherence to safety precautions.
  5. Installs and repairs step down transformer banks and installs pole and pad-mount transformers.
  6. Climbs poles to construct, replace and repair power lines; arresters, lights, transformers, capacitor switches, breakers, cross-arms, t-brackets, and other distribution equipment.
  7. Installs and P.T.'s with instrument metering.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of the tools, materials and methods used in line construction and maintenance work. Knowledge of theory and applications of theory regarding electrical circuits and wiring systems. Knowledge of the hazards of the trade and necessary safety precautions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Skill in the use and care of line tools and the testing of equipment. Working knowledge of tree limb removal. Physical strength and agility to climb poles and perform heavy manual work under inclement weather conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School graduate or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Successful completion of an Apprentice program and two years of progressive experience.

(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS

Valid Florida Class A Drivers License with 12 months to receive.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS

Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).

Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying.

Reaching, pulling, pushing.

Climbing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, balancing, stooping.

Distinguish colors.

Ability to distinguish odors.

Equipment Operation.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Works inside.

Works outside in various weather conditions with: noise, dust, fumes, grease or oils, electrical energy.
