Job summary

Bates College in Lewiston, Maine is seeking a Second Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach to support the Head Coach in a competitive NCAA Division III program. This seasonal position emphasizes mentorship, leadership, and student-athlete development.

Title: Second Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach
Position Purpose:

The Second Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach is responsible for aidingthe Head Coach in administering a competitive NCAA Division IIIintercollegiate program. This position supports the development ofstudent-athletes through mentorship, guidance, leadershipopportunities, community building, and a commitment to socialjustice. The Assistant Coach focuses primarily in the areas ofplanning and assisting with conditioning, training, and performanceof student-athletes. This is a seasonal assistant coachingposition, and all of the duties of the position must be conductedin adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations ofaffiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athleticassociations, the NESCAC Conference, and the College. The AssistantCoach will have significant night and weekend commitments. Thisposition reports to the Head Coach.

Job Duties:
  • Adheres to and enforces all policies and procedures of theDepartment of Athletics & Physical Education and the College aswell as the rules and regulations of the NESCAC, the NCAA and otherauthorities that may legitimately influence the intercollegiateathletics program.
  • Completes all required departmental and institutional trainingand certification programs and participates actively in availableprofessional development opportunities.
  • Provides leadership and instruction in the personal andathletic development of student-athletes, including counseling teammembers in academic, disciplinary and personal matters.
  • Assists the head coach in monitoring the eligibility status andacademic progress of student-athletes.
  • Assists the head coach in developing and implementingstrategies for motivating student-athletes to perform at maximumlevels as both individuals and a team.
  • Provide training necessary through skills, strength, andconditioning to enable students to compete safely andcompetitively
  • Ensures the safety of student-athletes and coaching staffthrough careful monitoring of the condition of athletic equipmentand facilities utilized by the designated sport.
  • Confirms that sport camps and clinics related to the sportprogram adhere to NCAA and institutional rules andregulations.
  • Serve as a caring, empathetic, and engaged advisor and mentorto students athletes, having a knowledge of campus resources torefer student athletes when necessary
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the head coach,Director of Athletics or any other senior level administrator.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience
  • Experience playing or coaching the sport, college levelpreferred.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated success in supervising youngadults and managing programs preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion, and serving the needs of aculturally and educationally diverse community.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop andmaintain collegial relationships. Must be flexible, collaborativeand have a positive attitude.
  • Ability to establish rapport quickly with students and theirfamilies, while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Knowledgeable about the skills and tactics of the sport.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple prioritieswith minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in basic data management systems, Front Rush, gamefilm editing programs and basic computer applications (e.g., Word,Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional applications asneeded.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (by car, air, train or bus)domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings and othernon-traditional schedules.
  • Personal commitment to excellence and the mission of a top-tiersmall liberal arts college.
  • Current CPR & First Aid certification.

Hiring Range:

The hiring range for this position is $17.00to $17.77. Placement within the range depends on experience andother factors.
