Job summary

Colas Inc. in Alaska is seeking an entry-level Lab Technician to assist with testing of aggregate, concrete, and asphalt materials, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and customer specifications. You will support inventory, sampling, data entry, and routine QC activities in a fast-paced lab environment.

You will work under supervision to inspect products, maintain lab order, and participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives while adhering to safety and environmental standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience with concrete and aggregate QC data.
  • Familiarity with concrete/aggregate lab equipment.
  • Proficient in handling large data sets in numeric form.
  • Strong attention to detail in testing and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Safely collect samples for testing and follow test procedures for aggregate and asphalt materials.
  • Read and understand basic specifications for construction/aggregate/concrete products.
  • Identify actual and potential problems in quality control operations.
  • Inspect products for quality and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain lab in neat, professional order.
  • Keep certifications up to date through seminars and trainings.
  • Ensure QC activities comply with company policies and regulations.
  • Implement improvements to QC methods, equipment, performance, and safety.
  • Report accurate test results daily and on time.
  • Review test results to confirm conformity with specifications.

Job Summary

Assist with aggregate, concrete, and asphalt material testing to ensure adherence to federal, state, and/or customer specifications. Assist with laboratory inventory, QC sampling, frequency and schedule, data entry/reporting,

Main Responsibilities
  • Safely collect samples for testing and follow test procedures in place for aggregate and asphalt materials.
  • Read, understand, and have a good working knowledge of the basic specifications, principles, and products associated with the construction / aggregate / concrete industry.
  • Recognize actual and potential problems related to quality control operations.
  • Inspect products for quality, identify and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Keep lab in neat clean and professional order.
  • Keep certifications, and qualifications up to date through seminars, meetings, testing, etc. as necessary.
  • Ensure all quality control activities are conducted in conformance with company policies, regulatory agencies, and acceptable working practices.
  • Implement measures to improve quality control methods, equipment, performance, service, safety and quality of products.
  • Ensure that accurate test results are reported daily and on time.
  • Review and analyze test results to determine conformity with product specifications as required.
Skills
  • Knowledge of concrete and aggregate quality control data preferred
  • Experience with various concrete and aggregate lab equipment
  • Ability to work with large volumes of numerical data
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to use computers and software
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and a PAT (physical abilities test).
  • Able to lift or move up to 50 pounds
  • Able to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Able to work in wet and/or dry conditions and extreme heat and cold
