Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) is seeking an Experienced Southern Mainline Deckhand to join our inland river fleet on a 28/28 schedule. The role emphasizes cargo handling, rigging, safety, and teamwork aboard river vessels, with onboard lodging and meals during work periods.

Qualified candidates will have at least 1 year of deckhand experience, TWIC, and the ability to pass health and background checks. We value reliability, flexibility, and strong work ethic.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of deckhand experience, preferably on inland rivers.
• TWIC card, health questionnaire, and physical abilities test.
• Must be 18+ and able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Schedule includes 28 days onboard with 28/14 days off and overtime flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Assist with safe loading and unloading of cargo.
• Inspect conditions affecting safety of crew or cargo.
• Handle rigging during tow building, locking, and docking.
• Load or unload materials to/from docks, barges, and boats.
• Inspect cables and lines; tighten or loosen as needed.
• Secure barges with tow wires and cables safely and environmentally.
• Perform basic vessel maintenance such as painting and oil changes.
• Contribute to a positive team environment and safety culture.
• Be an active crew member and support daily operations.
