Job summary

The State of Vermont through the Vermont Agency of Transportation is hiring seasonal Transportation Operations Technicians to support highway maintenance and winter operations in Swanton. This hands-on role involves repairing guardrails, patching pavement, ditching, clearing brush, and picking up litter, with overtime during heavy snowfall.

Minimum qualifications include one year of construction or related manual labor, or a season of snowplow operation, or a CDL with tanker endorsement.

Qualifications

• One year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor.
• Include either one season of operating a snowplow with wings or six months operating medium or heavy equipment.
• Or qualify via probation as Transportation Operations Technician I with Class A CDL tanker endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Repair guardrails and patch pavement.
• Ditching and clearing brush along roadways.
• Litter pickup and general roadside maintenance.
• Snow plowing and salting during winter weather events (overtime possible).
• Work may be outside regular schedule with overtime during emergencies.
