Job summary

H&R Block is seeking a seasonal Experienced Tax Professional to prepare accurate tax returns for clients with diverse and complex situations, including individuals and businesses. You will interview clients, provide personalized recommendations, and identify tax savings opportunities while delivering empathetic, consultative service.

You'll support IRS notices, audits, and collaborate with the team in a local in-person office in Huntsville, AL.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, or bookkeeping, including preparing individual and business returns.
• Experience working in a client facing, consultative, or advisory role.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain tax concepts in client-friendly language.
• Must complete continuing education and meet all other IRS and applicable state requirements.
• High school diploma / GED / equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, bookkeeping is preferred.
• CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA), or other IRS Circular 230 credential is preferred.
• Experience completing complex returns, tax planning, audit support, or tax notice resolution is preferred.
• Familiarity with GoSystem or Ultratax software is preferred.
• Familiarity with AI-powered tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT) is preferred.
• Experience in a consultative or advisory client relationship role is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete, accurate tax returns for clients with diverse and complex tax situations, including individual and business returns.
• Conduct in-depth client interviews to understand financial situations, life changes, and tax implications - then provide clear, personalized recommendations.
• Build trusted client relationships by delivering empathetic, consultative service and identifying tax savings opportunities and relevant H&R Block products.
• Provide IRS support, tax notice assistance, and audit guidance to clients as needed.
• Collaborate with team members, share knowledge, and contribute to a positive, client-focused office environment.
