City of Aurora, Colorado is seeking seasonal Streets Operations Worker to perform unskilled to semiskilled manual tasks and operate street maintenance equipment. The role supports the Public Works Department in keeping city streets safe and functional.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and 6 months of related labor or equipment experience. CDL may be required, and safety is a core priority. This is a seasonal position with up to 40 hours per week.

This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.The hiring range for this role is $21.20 - $26.50/hour.Salary to be commensurate with experience.Position overview:The seasonal Streets Operations Worker performs unskilled or semi-skilled manual tasks and operates automotive and grounds or maintenance equipment to maintain, construct and repair city streets and projects for the Public Works Department.PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESShovels and tamps asphalt to include pothole repair in a moving work zone.Loads and unloads tools.Assists in the installation, repair, and maintenance of streets.Operates and maintains specialized hand and power tools, vehicles, and equipment such as jack hammer, plate and jumping compactors, single axle dump trucks with plow and sander, spot patch/pothole truck.Performs snow and ice control operations to include working with operators from other departments.Assists with large roadside trash pickup.Performs additional duties as assignedThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONSAn equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.Education:High School Diploma or GEDExperience:Six (6) months of related manual labor, and/or equipment operation, and/or trades experience.Colorado CDL, a proficiency Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Commercial Driver’s License pre/post trip inspection will be conducted to include drive demonstration with our trucks when hired.Preferred Qualifications:Prefer experience in public works functions to include power tools and/or light equipment operation.Knowledge:Application of materials per operation to environmental standardsSkills:Construction/trade skills.Skilled in the use of hand and power toolsSkilled in the operation light to medium equipmentAbilities:Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, outside and in all weather conditions.Understand oral and written instructions.Operate various types of maintenance and construction equipment.Ability to respond to an emergency call within 30 minutes.Supportive team player with a positive attitude and ability to adapt to change.Strong commitment to safety.Licenses and Certifications Required:Colorado Class A or B CDL Driver’s LicenseMust obtain ATSSA Colorado Flagger Certification within one (1) month of employment.Must obtain RTD On-Track Safety Training Certification within one (1) month of employment.WORKING CONDITIONSEssential Personnel:When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.Physical Demands:Heavy physical work requiring the ability to lift 80 pounds with or without assistance.Frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.Work Environment:Works primarily outdoors in both hot and cold weather with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and chemicalsEquipment Used:Light to medium equipment common to construction and maintenance of roadways.Operates vehicles such as dump truck, spot patch/pothole truck, crash attenuator trailer, work zone trailer.Operates hand and power tools and equipment for roadway maintenance.This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.Proper Federal Communications Commission (FCC) two-way radio communication standards.The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026.
