Job summary

Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking a Senior Camp Counselor for Camp Speers, Poconos. This seasonal, overnight role involves supervising campers, planning activities, and fostering inclusive participation in all events.

The position requires 18+ years old, a high school diploma or equivalent, and relevant child development coursework. Prior two seasons as a Y Camp Counselor or equivalent is preferred, along with enthusiasm and a great sense of humor.

Qualifications

• 18+ years of age.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Enrolled in a minimum of 2 years of child development coursework approved by state licensing requirements.
• Experience working with children and at least two seasons as a Y Camp Counselor or in a comparable program.
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise campers and plan camp activities. Actively participate in activities to encourage participation.
• Ensure all campers can participate in all activities, regardless of abilities.
• Identify, address, and redirect inappropriate behavior.
• Maintain safe behavior of campers and staff to avoid accidents.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding camper activities.
• Embody GPY commitment to diversity and inclusion.

• Ability to identify, address, and redirect/correct inappropriate behavior
• Ensure appropriate behavior of campers and staff to avoid the risk of accidents
• Assist in maintaining effective communication with parents/guardians regarding camper and camp activities
