Job summary

Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking a Senior Camp Counselor for Camp Speers in the Poconos to lead overnight activities and supervise campers.

You will work with a friendly team to plan age-appropriate programs and help children reach their potential while upholding safety, inclusion, and YMCA values.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ years old.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Enrolled in 2+ years of state-licensed child development coursework.
• Experience with children and at least two seasons as a Y Camp Counselor or similar program.
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise campers and plan camp activities; actively participate to encourage participation.
• Ensure all campers can participate in all activities regardless of abilities.
• Identify, address, and redirect inappropriate behavior.
• Maintain safe behavior of campers and staff to avoid accidents.
• Assist in communicating with parents/guardians about camper activities.
• Promote GPY's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

What is needed for this job as our Senior Counselor:

• 18+ years of age
• High school graduate or equivalent
• Or enrolled in a minimum of 2 years of child development coursework approved by state licensing requirements.
• Experience working with children and at least two seasons working as a Y Camp Counselor or as a counselor in a comparable program.
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience.

The responsibilities we will trust you with as our Senior Counselor:

• Supervise campers and plan camp activities. Actively participate in activities to encourage participation
• Ensure all campers can participate in all activities, no matter varied abilities whether physical, or intellectual
• Ability to identify, address, and redirect/correct inappropriate behavior
• Ensure appropriate behavior of campers and staff to avoid the risk of accidents
• Assist in maintaining effective communication with parents/guardians regarding camper and camp activities
