Job summary

Stanislaus Food Products Co. is seeking a Seasonal Safety Assistant to support daily safety tasks at our Modesto cannery. The role is on-site with open shifts, helping with incident reporting, training material preparation, and basic first aid.

The position runs mid-July through September and may extend, with the facility operating around the clock during peak season. You will help maintain safety records, coordinate with the Safety Manager, and assist with drug testing and return-to-work

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word/PowerPoint/Excel/Access).
• Ability to follow instructions and work well with others.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily safety walkthroughs and document observations.
• Support incident reporting by gathering information and keeping records.
• Help prepare materials for safety training sessions and assist setup.
• Provide basic first aid and refer employees to medical providers when needed.
• Maintain safety supplies and stocked first aid kits.
• Enter data and maintain logs for safety activities and shift reports.
• Assist with workers’ compensation documentation and return-to-work tracking under supervision.
• Support drug testing procedures as directed by the Safety Manager.
• Keep safety office and supply area clean and organized.
• Assist with emergency response and communicate procedures during incidents.
• Participate in CPR, First Aid, and AED trainings and maintain certifications.
• Work flexible shifts including days, nights, weekends, holidays as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay: $22.50 – $23.25 per hour

In this role, you will assist with daily safety tasks, maintain records, support basic training activities, and provide first aid assistance as needed. This position plays an important role in supporting compliance with company policies and applicable safety regulations. Stanislaus Food Products runs 24/7 during our season. Open availability to work any shift is required. Our Season runs from Mid-July through end of September but could extend.

This position will be primarily responsible for:

• Assisting with daily safety walkthroughs and accurately document observations.
• Supporting incident reporting by gathering required information and maintaining accurate records.
• Assisting in preparing materials for safety training sessions and supporting session setup.
• Providing basic first aid support and assisting with referring employees to medical providers when necessary.
• Maintaining safety-related supplies and ensuring first aid kits remain properly stocked.
• Assisting with data entry and maintaining logs related to safety activities and shift reports.
• Assisting with workers’ compensation documentation and return‑to‑work tracking under supervision.
• Supporting reasonable suspicion drug testing procedures as directed by the Safety Manager.
• Assisting in maintaining a clean and organized safety office and supply area.
• Assisting with emergency response efforts and helping communicate procedures during incidents.
• Participating in CPR, First Aid, and AED training and maintaining required certifications.
• Working flexible shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, as needed.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively with others.
• Strong attention to detail with effective organizational skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and demonstrate initiative.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current CPR, First Aid, AED, or BLS certification.
• Familiarity with Cal/OSHA regulations and Workers’ Compensation.

Physical Requirements:

Moderate lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires the following percentages of time committed to physical activity: 25% or more sitting, 75% or less walking, and 75% or more standing. The job is performed under moderate temperature variations and in a cannery environment. Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees. The ability to lift up to 45 lbs. is required . Work in an environment where the noise level varies. Continuously climb and descend stairs (applies to sites with stairs).
