Job summary

The City of Goleta Public Works Department has an exciting opportunity to support the department while gaining knowledge and experience in Public Works maintenance as a Maintenance Assistant. This is a seasonal and temporary position that may work no more than 999 hours per July-June fiscal year.

The department's preference is for this position to work full time, however there may be an option for part time hours given the right candidate.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• Six months of related experience driving a pickup truck or heavy vehicle.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects safely.
• Willingness to learn safety practices and procedures.
• Ability to establish cooperative working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Assist with pothole repair, sign installation, debris removal and vegetation management.
• Support traffic control, painting, pavement striping, trash removal and graffiti removal.
• Perform irrigation repairs and operate hand tools and small power equipment.
• Assist with equipment setup, minor park equipment repairs, and routine vehicle maintenance.
• Load/unload supplies and maintain daily activity logs.
