Job summary

The City of Goleta Public Works Department is seeking a Maintenance Assistant for a seasonal, temporary role limited to 999 hours per fiscal year. The position may be full-time or part-time depending on candidate fit, with on-site duties across parks, streets, and facilities.

You will learn routine maintenance tasks, operate basic tools, and assist with safety inspections under supervision. This at-will role is non-benefited and aimed at gaining hands-on public works experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• Six months of related work experience with driving a pickup truck or van and lifting heavy objects.
• Ability to follow safety practices and work with others.

Responsibilities

• Assist with pothole repair, sign installation, debris removal, and vegetation management.
• Support traffic control, painting, pavement striping, and park equipment repairs.
• Perform cleaning of restrooms and general facility upkeep.
• Learn and use hand tools and small power equipment for maintenance tasks.
• Maintain logs of daily activities and assist with project preparation.
