Job summary

Camp Courageous is seeking a PRN Nursing position for the Summer & Fall seasons (May–December) to provide weekend respite care. The role involves medication management, first aid, and health assessments for campers with disabilities in a camp setting.

Responsibilities include documenting treatments, coordinating with counselors, assisting with check-in, and maintaining nursing department sanitation. Current Iowa licensure and CPR/First Aid are required; experience with disability care is a plus.

Qualifications

• RN or LPN or medical professional licensed in Iowa
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
• Experience in school nursing, camp nursing, or with individuals with disabilities is a plus

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and first-aid items for campers, staff and volunteers
• Conduct initial health assessment within 24 hours of camper arrival
• Document all medications, treatments and injuries meticulously
• Assist with check-in and review camper files for special health needs
• Support cleaning and sanitation of the Nursing Department and equipment
• Supervise Health Staff Assistant and follow Camp Courageous nursing policies

PRN – Summer & Fall (May – December) / Respite Care weekends

Position Summary:

Camp Courageous is a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities, brain injuries, hearing or visual impairments, autism and other special needs are served.

Working with children and adults with special needs is often a very real challenge. Patience, energy, good judgment and enthusiasm are important qualifications for a position at Camp Courageous.

Nursing duties include but not limited to:

• Be responsible for medications or first aid items brought to camp by campers, staff and volunteers


• Conduct a physical exam and assessment of campers within 24 hours of their arrival and prior to departure from camp.


• Administer appropriate first-aid.


• Document accurately all administration of prescribed medications and treatments, and any injuries of campers, staff and volunteers.


• Discuss important health issues regarding specific camper needs with the assigned counselor as needed.


• Assist with the check-in process of campers.


• Review upcoming camper files to be aware of camper’s special needs.


• Assist with cleaning and sanitation of the Nursing Department, equipment and supplies.


• Supervise and provide direction to the Health Staff Assistant.


• Adhere to standards of nursing practice, according to established policies and procedures endorsed by the Camp Courageous Nursing Department.

Qualifications:

• RN, LPN or a medical professional currently licensed in the state of Iowa.


• Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR


• Experience in school nursing, community health, camp nursing, or involvement with individuals having disabilities. (An asset but not a requirement)

Camp is currently looking to fill the PRN staffing needs for the months of May through December and camp is also looking for a Respite Care Nurse.

This position includes competitive pay based on experience.
