Job summary

The City of Shawnee, KS is seeking Seasonal Laborers in the Parks & Recreation Department. This non-supervisory role supports grounds and facilities maintenance, transport, and field data collection in City parks. Work is performed under direct supervision with some independent field tasks, and may involve evenings or weekends for events.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent; DOQ for entry and senior level pay. Seasonal hours cap at 1,000 for April–November.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Five+ years of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or operation of trucks and light equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists with seasonal maintenance work including mowing, trimming, watering, and plant care; cleans park facilities and restrooms.
• Drives or transports materials and equipment to job sites; loads/unloads as needed.
• Prepares facilities for activities; sets up tables, chairs, equipment for events.
• Performs minor equipment maintenance and washes vehicles and equipment.
• Paints buildings and other structures as required.
• Photographs amenities and collects field data for park inventory.
• Shovels snow and ice; drives truck during snow removal operations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
