Job description

Lead the waterfront at a boys’ camp with a longstanding tradition of excellence. For a camper, the waterfront is the best hour of the day. You run all of it: the swimming, the boating, the watersports, and the young staff who make it happen.

THE WATERFRONT YOU’LL RUN
  • A clean Maine lake with a swim area and a boating area
  • A ski and tow boat, a pontoon, and a fleet of canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and sailboats
  • Waterskiing, tubing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, sailing, and fishing
  • A bongo inflatable, a climbing-and-slide inflatable, and diving boards
  • Progressive swim lessons that parallel Red Cross Learn to Swim

Our program is built on individual challenge, and the waterfront is where boys meet it most directly. Campers advance through our swim levels one at a time. Each level a boy earns unlocks more waterfront elective time for the fun beyond lessons: the tow boat, the inflatables, the deep water. You run that system. You set the standard, provide the highest level of coaching for each level, and decide when a camper is ready to move up.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Run first-day swim checks and place every camper by ability
  • Build and lead the lesson program, from first-time swimmers to confident ones
  • Keep lifeguard coverage and the buddy and sign-in system tight at all times
  • Drive the tow boat for watersports, or train and supervise the staff who do
  • Oversee sailing, paddling, and fishing
  • Run and maintain the inflatables and diving boards safely
  • Inspect docks, boats, PFDs, and rescue gear daily and pull anything unsafe
  • Own the waterfront emergency action plan and run rescue drills
  • Coach, schedule, and mentor your waterfront staff
WHO YOU’LL LEAD
  • About twelve waterfront staff, most of them 17 to 22, including CITs and international counselors
  • For their waterfront and safety work, they report to you
  • Camp administration handles their cabin and program life, so your focus stays on the water
  • Mentoring these young staff is a core part of the job, not a side duty
WHAT WE PROVIDE
  • $6,000 flat stipend for the summer
  • Shared housing with other adult staff
  • Three meals a day in the dining hall
  • One full day off a week, plus flexible time off during the day
  • Full use of camp and waterfront facilities on your own time
  • Free LGT and WSI recertification if yours has lapsed
YOU’LL THRIVE HERE IF
  • You work as a team and flex when the day changes
  • You love to teach, and you stay patient with the kid who is scared or stubborn
  • You can help a boy who expected to fail walk away proud
  • We serve boys from every kind of family. Many arrive carrying more than a duffel bag. The waterfront is often where they get their first real win of the summer.

Camp administration organizes LGT and WSI courses. If yours has lapsed, we cover the recertification. Want to earn or renew with us? Start on site as early as June 12, ahead of the June 19 season start.

  • SAFETY IS THE STANDARD
  • The waterfront is the highest-stakes area at any camp, and we staff it that wayYou account for every camper in the waterthrough swim checks, the buddy system, and sign-in and sign-out
  • You know who is at your waterfront and where they are at all times
  • All staff complete a full background check
  • We provide mandatory reporter training
  • We adhere to youth camp safety rules and laws

Season: June 19 to August 15
Optional early start: June 12, for certification

  • You are 21 or older
  • Current Lifeguard (LGT) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certifications, which include CPR/AED and First Aid, or ready toearn or recertify them with us before the season
  • Comfortable driving a motorboat and towing watersports, or ready to learn fast
  • Experience coaching or supervising young staff
  • Up for the physical side: long days on your feet, lifting boats and gear, and performing a water rescue if it’s ever needed
A STRONG PLUS
  • Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), so you can help certify our team on site
  • A boating license, and we can help you earn it
