An established industry player is seeking seasonal maintenance workers to join their team in a vibrant city setting. GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs general grounds maintenance duties including preparation of walking trails and fields at assigned city and park sites, and basic maintenance tasks in city right-of-way including vegetation control, asphalt, concrete, gravel, and drainage repairs. Operates a range of small powered and specialized equipment. Provides support for special events. May perform duties of similar complexity in other maintenance areas as required or assigned. Because of the small size of the city staff, each staff member is expected to perform a wide range of field duties as required from time to time.
This is a seasonal full-time, non-exempt position. Work schedule is typically day shift, Monday - Friday; occasional evening or weekend work may be required. Seasonal Maintenance Workers may work up to six months during peak season/maintenance activities. Work schedule and duration will be discussed further with new hires. Perform routine tasks such as weeding, raking, watering, hand mowing, edging, shoveling, litter pick-up, cleaning and repairing trails, grounds and other public facilities. Assist other employees in other park, building, and right-of-way repair tasks.

Equipment such as, but not limited to, push and riding mowers, power edger, hand and backpack blowers, string trimmers, chain saws and pole saws, ladders of various sizes and configurations, and powered and non-powered hand tools.

Duties are performed primarily outdoors in a variety of terrains, under a variety of weather conditions, including sun, rain, wind, and mud. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of maintenance equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee often works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. The employee is exposed to wet and/or humid or hot conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to: Perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions. This may include physically strenuous labor, continuous or repetitive movements; skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects; fine, highly controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of a control mechanism; bending or stooping repeatedly or continually over time; working in small cramped spaces; climbing ladders or steps; walking on rough, uneven ground; and performing other physical tasks as required of the position. Required to sit, talk, and hear; frequently required to use hand tools which require repetitive arm, wrist and hand movement. Occasionally required to stand and reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl.
The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions and terrain as well as perform a variety of physical tasks and heavy labor. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Ability to conform to drug and alcohol testing requirements under the federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991; Applicants may be subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol tests and physical examinations; Proper documentation to fulfill the requirements of the Immigration and Nationality Act within three days of employment is a condition of employment with the City of Lake Forest Park; Candidate is required to provide a DOL Abstract for the past three years.
