Provo City is seeking part-time seasonal Lifeguards and Swim Instructors for the Aquatics Division. Candidates will monitor swimmers, provide first aid, and teach swimming classes. Training is provided for necessary certifications. Flexible hours, up to 25 per week.

What is the compensation?
Lifeguard: $12.00 per hour.
Swim Instructors $13.00.
Successful performers are eligible for a $0.50 per hour increase every 6 months for up to 2 years. We also pay a specialty rate for events outside of normal job hours.

What will I do?
Lifeguard and instruct water safety courses at the Provo Recreation Center.
Monitor swimmers and patrons.
Provide first aid.
Rescue swimmers/patrons when necessary.
Teach Red Cross sanctioned water safety and swimming classes.
Assist staff members as needed and perform other related work as required.
What do I need to apply?
Be 16 years of age at time of appointment.
A current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification.
A current American Red Cross WSI Certification or equivalent AND/OR teaching swim experience (for Swim Instructor) .
Provo City will provide training opportunities to obtain the above certifications if you do not already have them.
Preference given to applicants with Advancing Lifesaving Certification.
What are the hours?
Up to 25 hours per week, flexible during facility hours of operation. Some weekend shifts are required.
What are the physical and environmental factors?
This position requires: physical strength and agility to perform the work, including, rescuing, standing, bending, and swimming during instruction and safety assistance; the ability to work in various weather conditions; work with the public in potentially stressful situations; and regular exposure to the sun and pool chemicals.
What is the selection process?
This is an open file posting. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted for any positions available at that time. They will remain on file for a minimum of 60 days. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.
If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
