Job summary

City of Des Moines is hiring lifeguards for Reichardt Community Recreation Center. The position requires guarding aquatic areas, enforcing rules, and ensuring patron safety. A current lifeguard certification and CPR/First Aid are required or obtainable by start date.

Seasonal hours include weekends and evenings through the season, with background checks performed. Applicants must be at least 15 years old and able to obtain a work permit.

Qualifications

• Must be 15 years of age and able to secure a work permit.
• Must hold a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification and CPR Certification or be able to obtain required certifications by employment start date.
• Certifications must be valid through March 31, 2027.

Responsibilities

• Warn patrons against hazardous practices and instruct facility rules.
• Assist persons in distress using lifeguarding techniques and water rescues; apply First Aid/CPR as needed.
• Maintain constant supervision of water areas to prevent accidents.
• Provide superior customer service and assist with maintenance and cleaning of facilities.
• May be required to work before/after public swimming hours for special programs or rentals.
