Job summary

The City of Ames Parks and Recreation Department is seeking Mid-day Lifeguards for days Mon-Fri, 10:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m., to supervise aquatic facilities and ensure patron safety.

Candidates must have or be willing to obtain the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification; the city can provide the course. Experience in lifeguarding and swimming is preferred, with ongoing fitness and safety responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Lifeguarding and swimming experience recommended.
• Current American Red Cross Deep Water Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid and AED training required; city may provide certification if not possessed.

Responsibilities

• Enforce aquatic facility rules and educate patrons.
• Recognize and respond to emergencies; perform surveillance and rescues.
• Administer first aid, CPR or AED as needed in emergencies.
• Inspect facility and report safety concerns or equipment issues.
• Complete required records and reports; perform routine cleaning and maintenance.
• Attend in-service training sessions; maintain fitness related to swimming.
