Position Overview

The City of Oceanside is accepting applications for Seasonal Lifeguards to work at city pools. These part-time positions are utilized year-round, not exceeding 999 hours per fiscal year.

Responsibilities

• Observing and ensuring patron safety through rescue and lifeguarding duties
• Explaining and enforcing rules
• Providing swimming instruction
• Administering first aid, CPR, and artificial respiration
• Maintaining facilities, cashiering, keeping records, and other assigned tasks

Qualifications

• Strong swimming and diving skills
• Sufficient strength, agility, hearing, and visual acuity
• Experience in lifeguarding or swimming instruction is desirable

Training and Certifications

• Completion of Lifeguard Training Course
• American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent
• Lifeguard Training
• Within six months of hire, obtain Emergency Medical Response certification

Additional Requirements

• Applicants under 18 must provide a work permit
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions and around water
• Perform emergency lifesaving functions, including water rescue, CPR, and first aid
• Extended hours including evenings, mornings, and weekends

Selection Process

The process includes a performance exam (swimming, rescue skills, CPR, and First Aid) and an oral interview. Proper certifications must be attached to the application. Background checks, fingerprinting, medical exams, and possibly drug screening are required.
