ALS is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support the Organics air analysis lab. You will assist with air sample testing, prepare and repair sample media, and help maintain instruments in a compliant, safe environment.
The role emphasizes following SOPs, documenting results, working with team members, and upholding quality standards. A high school diploma and some college science coursework are required, with opportunities for training and career growth.
The primary purpose of this position is to be responsible for assisting in the Organics air analysis lab performing various support duties related to air samples/testing and the preparation and repair of the sample media. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/ou ability required.
Follow appropriate methodologies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required. Document activities and report results in a concise and accurate manner. Operate and maintain various laboratory instruments and equipment. Prepare, maintain, and repair sample media used in air testing processes. Support laboratory operations while adhering to established quality standards and procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Recognize and maintain safe working conditions and use appropriate safety equipment at all times. Collaborate effectively with laboratory staff and management. Perform other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma required. Minimum of 8 credit hours of college-level science coursework required. One year of college-level science classes or one year of laboratory experience may be considered in lieu of this requirement. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality. Effective verbal and written communication skills in English with the ability to communicate professionally with staff and management. Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills. Previous laboratory experience is highly desirable. Ability to develop an understanding of quality control requirements and laboratory quality systems.
Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with staff, management, and clients. Able to sit and/or stand for up to 100% of an 8-hour workday. Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate computers, laboratory instruments, and other equipment. Must have adequate vision to read reports, perform laboratory tasks, and operate equipment safely. Ability to distinguish differences in color and shade. Ability to perform repetitive motion activities. Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate equipment; Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
